INT. JEN’S HOUSE – NIGHT

DING DONG.

JEN (O.S.)

Hello?

RO (O.S.)

It’s me.

JEN (O.S.)

Me who?

RO (O.S.)

Me. Your brother.

The door opens. Jen stands frozen. RO grins back at her, holding a suitcase and a backpack.

JEN

Ro! What are you doing in London?

RO

Surprise! I thought you might need a manny.

INT. LIVING ROOM – CONTINUOUS

Ro walks in, dropping his gear by the door. They move into the living room and sit on the couch. The house is quiet

JEN

You should’ve told me you were coming. I could’ve picked you up from the airport.

RO

But then it wouldn’t be a surprise, now would it?

JEN

You nearly gave me a heart attack!

RO

Eh, heart attack, schmart attack. (beat) So, what do you have to eat?

JEN

I’ve got some tikka masala in the fridge. I’ll heat up some naan.

RO

The national dish of the United Kingdom!

INT. KITCHEN / DINING AREA – MOMENTS LATER

Jen heads into the kitchen. Ro follows, leaning against the doorframe, watching her.

JEN

So, what are you doing here?

RO

Can’t a brother visit his only sister?

JEN

So you heard?

RO

Whatever could you be talking about?

JEN

Cut the shit, Ro. You heard.

RO

It’s like they say—when one man leaves, another walks right through the door.

JEN

No one says that.

The MICROWAVE BEEPS. Jen pulls out the curry. She moves to a pan, finishing the naan, then sets the table.

JEN

Did Dad make you do this?

RO

No. He doesn’t even know.

JEN

What do you mean he doesn’t know?

RO

He doesn’t know. No one knows.

Ro sits at the table, breathing in the scent of the curry.

RO

Smells good.

JEN

You didn’t tell anyone?

RO

What was there to say?

JEN

“Hey everyone, I’m going halfway around the world to visit my sister whose husband just left her.”

RO

That’s far too dramatic for me

.JEN

Says the man who flew halfway around the world without telling anyone.

Jen brings the hot naan to the table. Ro doesn’t wait for utensils—he tears into the food with his hands. Jen sits across from him, watching.\

RO(mid-bite)

Oh my God… you’ve still got it, Didi. Wow. Don’t tell Mom, but this might be better than hers.

JEN

So why are you here? Is this some type of pity party?

RO

OH! I’m eating here!

JEN

Twenty-three years. I had the best life for twenty-three years. A life people wanted. A life people envied. Now—

RO (with food in his mouth)

—Now you’re fucked. Single mom, all alone, two young kids, far away from home.

Jen absorbs that.

JEN(beat)

Yes. I’m fucked.

RO

That’s why I’m here!

JEN

I appreciate it, Ro, but your life isn’t here. You’ll stay what—a week? Two? Maybe a month? You have to go back eventually.

RO

Oh, don’t worry about that. I’m moving here.

Ro keeps eating, eyes locked on his plate, completely casual. Jen leans back in her chair—stunned into silence.
